Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs first-round pick NT Dontari Poe has been working with the third-string defense in recent weeks.
โThe young Poe, heโs still learning, and he gave good effort,โ said head coach Romeo Crennel. โHeโs trying to learn to do the things the way we want them. Heโs not there yet.โ
This is interesting because of the fact that some scouts believed that Poe was the most overrated player in this yearโs draft. He had a phenomenal performance at this yearโs Scouting Combine, but didnโt show the same kind of effectiveness while at Memphis. The Chiefs needed help at nose tackle, so the pick made sense from that angle, but it would certainly be a disappointment to see him play behind undrafted free agent Anthony Toribio and Jerrell Powe this season.
