Chiefs First-Round Pick NT Dontari Poe Off To A Slow Start

Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs first-round pick NT Dontari Poe has been working with the third-string defense in recent weeks.

โ€œThe young Poe, heโ€™s still learning, and he gave good effort,โ€ said head coach Romeo Crennel.  โ€œHeโ€™s trying to learn to do the things the way we want them. Heโ€™s not there yet.โ€

This is interesting because of the fact that some scouts believed that Poe was the most overrated player in this yearโ€™s draft. He had a phenomenal performance at this yearโ€™s Scouting Combine, but didnโ€™t show the same kind of effectiveness while at Memphis. The Chiefs needed help at nose tackle, so the pick made sense from that angle, but it would certainly be a disappointment to see him play behind undrafted free agent Anthony Toribio and Jerrell Powe this season.
