The Kansas City Chiefs wound up rejecting multiple offers to trade back in the first-round so that they could take NT Dontari Poe at No. 11 overall.
“We felt that (Dontari) was the right player for us,” GM Scott Pioli said, via KCChiefs.com. “We didn’t want to move too far away from him and risk the chance of not being able to get him.”
Pioli doesn’t share the same concern as some of the talent evaluators regarding Poe’s overall production.
“At least 49 percent of his snaps were literally plays that could not be deemed plays that would allow him to have production,” explained Pioli.
Finding a solid nose tackle was clearly on their most obvious needs, but Romeo Crennel will have to get him prepared to be the rock in the middle of their defense next year. The Chiefs have plenty of talent to rush the passer, but needs to anchor that defensive line for them.
