Chiefs & Patriots Interested In Josh McDaniels

Yesterday we mentioned that Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would be let go if Jeff Fisher elects to sign on as the teams head coach.

Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that both the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots have already sought permission to speak with McDaniels about possibly joining their staffs if he’s let go.

We’ve already made the connections to the Chiefs as their president Scott Pioli worked with McDaniels in New England where he coached Matt Cassel who happens to be on the Chiefs roster.

Last night the news came out that Patriots OC Bill O’Brien will take over as the new Penn State head coach which leaves them with an opening. McDaniels could rejoin his mentor Bill Belichick and go back to working with Tom Brady and the team offense.

Both options should be of interest but I’d be surprised to see him choose the Chiefs over the Patriots with all things being equal. Then again the Chiefs could set him up for another shot at becoming a head coach which is something that the Patriots cannot offer.
