Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Chiefs and RB Spencer Ware have agreed to a restructured contract that will convert $725,000 of his $1.45 million base salary into incentives.
According to Yates, Ware has a “very real shot” of reaching those incentives and making the full $1.45 million.
Ware is working his way back from a serious knee injury that he suffered last year, but the good news is that he should be ready for the start of training camp.
Ware, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2013. He spent over a year in Seattle before signing on with the Chiefs at the end of the 2014 season.
The Chiefs signed Ware to a three-year, $4.2 million contract that included $1.6 million guaranteed in 2016 and he was set to make a base salary of $1.45 million in the final year of the agreement.
In 2016, Ware appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 921 yards on 214 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 33 receptions for 447 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
