Chuck Pagano Also In The Mix For Jets’ Defensive Coordinator Job

According to Albert Breer, former Colts HCย Chuck Pagano is also in the mix for the Jets’ defensive coordinator job under Adam Gase along with Gregg Williams and Vance Joseph.

Pagano interviewed for the Bronco and Packers head coach jobs,ย but both teams elected to go in a different direction.

Pagano, 58,ย spent a few years as the Ravens’ secondary coach before he was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2011.ย The Colts later hired him as their head coach a year later and he spent six years in Indianapolis before he was fired this past January.

During his six years in Indianapolis, Pagano led the team to a record of 53-43 (55.2 percent) and three playoff appearances including an AFC Championship game appearance in 2014.

  1. Chuck Pagano should be the choice for DC with the Jets. Pagano’s resume speaks for itself as a DC and HC. The Jets would stay in their current 3-4 defense, Gregg Williams is a great DC but runs a 4-3. Why have lots of personnel changes on both sides of the ball? Pagano would take the pressure off Gase and allow him to focus on the offense and the growth of Sam Darnold.
A lot of people criticized the Gase hiring. I personally thought McCarthy was the pick. But! Gase is a good young talent and learned under some of the best college and pro coaches. Remember his first season ’16 was a playoff year at 10-6, then his DC Vance Joseph left for Denver and Miami began a defensive overhaul that resulted in a 6-10 record in 2017. And this past year Gase got Miami to 7-9, better then last year by a game. All while having an injured Ryan Tannehill, journeyman Matt Moore and the ridiculously over hyped Brock Ostweiler as QBs. Don’t forget their best RB this year was 35 year old Frank Gore.
I’m a GMEN FAN and I would take Gase over Shurmur in a heartbeat. But! That’s a whole other discussion.
