And just like that, the Jimmy Clausen era has begun in Carolina. Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer reports that John Fox has made the decision to go with the rookie over Matt Moore who has struggled in both of his outings this season.
Obviously this is a jerk reaction from a head coach that is feeling the heat after the Panthers 0-2 start to the season but Matt Moore hasn’t exactly done all that much to deserve being the teams starter. Moore has thrown for 307 yards with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Clausen numbers aren’t all that great so far but he has only been used in relief of Moore which has amounted to a limited amount of time.
Clausen was a second-round pick that has showed signs that he could develop into a solid starting quarterback in the NFL. The Panthers will be up against the Bengals on Sunday which will be a good test for Clausen and the rest of the Panthers offense. If Clausen is able to move the ball through the air, it could open up the ground game for their dynamic running game that has been held in check so far this season.
