Washinton Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan announced that RB Clinton Portis will be out for at least four weeks and possible six with a third-degree separation of his left groin.
Jason Reid of the Washington Post mentions that the Portisโs injury could be the end of his time in Washington. Portisโs groin is said to be โtorn off of the boneโ which isnโt a positive sign that he will be able to rejoin the team and be effective later in the season.
Portis has missed the majority of a season multiple times during his career and there has already been some concern about the amount of mileage that he has tallied over the years. When you consider that his 2011 option would cost the Redskins $8.3 million, his return begins to seem even more unlikely.
Ryan Torain has already been named the teams starting running back and if heโs able to be productive for the Redskins offense, it could make a the transition much easier for Shanahan and company.
