Colts Claim CB Tevin Mitchel Off Waivers From Redskins, Waive S Robert Smith

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they’ve claimed CB Tevin Mitchel off of waivers from the Redskins on Thursday.

  • The Colts also placed S Robert Smith on waivers to make room for their new addition.

Mitchel, 23, was taken in the sixth round of this year’s draft by Washington, but lasted just a few months with the team after they elected to waive him on Wednesday.

It appeared as though the Redskins were hoping Mitchel would clear waivers and revert to their practice squad, but the Colts, obviously, prevented this from happening.

During his college career, Mitchel appeared in 42 games (29 starts) at Arkansas and finished with 157 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 18 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown).
