Jim Trotter of NFL Media reported on “NFL NOW” Friday that the most likely landing spot for free agent S Eric Berry is the Colts.
“But I’ve been told that there have at least been discussions,” Trotter said of Berry and the Colts. “One of Eric Berry’s best friends is Justin Houston, his former teammate in Kansas City, who is now with the Colts.”
According to Trotter, Berry “did have offers” to play last season, but opted to wait and ensure he was fully healthy before making his return.
“I’ve seen tape of him, and he looks great,” Trotter said.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported last month that Berry intends to play in 2020, despite sitting out the entire 2019 season.
Rumors and reports previously linked Berry to the Browns and Cowboys last year, but nothing ever came of the talk.
Berry, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.
Berry played out his rookie contract with the Chiefs before being franchised in 2017. The two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed.
Berry was set to make base salaries of $12.4 million and $9.4 million over the next two years when the Chiefs released him with a post-June 1 designation last summer.
In 2018, Berry appeared in two games and recorded 11 tackles and no interceptions for the Chiefs.
