Colts Release Veteran QB Josh Johnson

The Colts announced the release of QB Josh Johnson of Monday, which is a clear indication that they expect to have Andrew Luck back for Week 5’s game.

  • Colts sign DE Earl Okine to their practice squad.

Johnson, 29, is a former fifth round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. Since then, Johnson has played for a number of teams including the 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Chargers, and Jets before signing on with the Colts last week.

The list of free agent quarterbacks is, obviously, very limited, but the amount of interest in Johnson indicates that he’s largely considered to be one of the best available options.

Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.
