According to Ian Rapoport, the Colts won’t activate WR Devin Funchess from injured reserve by the deadline on December 4, which will end his season.
Funchess broke his collarbone back in Week 1 and was placed on injured reserve. Despite being designated to return by Indianapolis a few weeks ago, he was never able to return to practice.
Per Rapoport, the plate inserted into Funchess’ collarbone didn’t heal as quickly as expected. He’ll have plenty of time to try and heal before next season where he’ll potentially be playing with another team besides the Colts, as he signed only a one-year “prove-it” deal with Indianapolis.
Funchess, 25, is a former second-round pick by the Panthers in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Michigan. He finished his four-year rookie contract with Carolina before agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million with the Colts this offseason.
Funchess will once again be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2019, Funchess appeared in one game and caught three passes for 32 yards receiving.
