According to Aaron Wilson, the Colts brought in five free agents for workouts on Tuesday including DBs Blake Countess and Obi Melifonwu.
The full list of players includes:
- CB Blake Countess
- LB Mark McLaurin
- S Obi Melifonwu
- S Tyvis Powell
- DB Abraham Wallace
Countess, 27, was taken in the sixth round out of Auburn in 2016 by the Eagles. He was cut loose coming out of the preseason and later signed on to the Rams practice squad.
The Eagles later claimed Countess off waivers from the Rams before waiving him during the preseason with an injury settlement. From there, he caught on with the Jets in October of last year.
New York elected to cut him loose back in March.
In 2019, Countess was active for six games, but did not record a statistic.
Melifonwu, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $4.5 million contract when the Raiders waived him in November of last year.
The Patriots quickly signed Melifonwu to a contract and he finished out the year in New England. New England waived him coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad last November.
Melifonwu was later placed on their practice squad’s injured reserve before getting released in April.
In 2018, Melifonwu appeared in seven games for the Raiders and Patriots and recorded seven tackles and no interceptions.
