Bengals DT Geno Atkins‘ agent recently spoke with the team at the Senior Bowlย regarding a contract extension for his client.
Atkins’ agent characterized the talks as aย “brief, casual”ย encounter.
“We had some dialogue down here,” said agent Pat Dye, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Both sides would like to get something sooner rather than later. It’s just a matter of sitting down and getting it done in a way that satisfies both sides.”
Atkins, 24, will be attending hisย secondย Pro Bowl in his brief NFL career and is in a great position to receive a long-term contract extension from the Bengals. He has quickly become one of the best interior defensive lineman in the game and was rated as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the league by Pro Football Focus this season.ย
He’ll be entering the final year of his rookie contract next season, so there’s at least a reasonable chance that he could secure a deal that would come close to averaging $12 million per season.
