The Dallas Cowboys announced Monday that they’ve activated LB Leighton Vander Esch from injured reserve and placed QB Dak Prescott and DT Trysten Hill on the list.
The Cowboys also signed DT Justin Hamilton to their active roster and elevated S Stephen Parker and C Marcus Henry.
Prescott is expected to make a full recovery from the ankle fracture/dislocation he suffered over a week ago. Hill tore his ACL, but should have a chance at being ready for Week 1 next season.
Prescott, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason when Dallas placed the franchise tag on him.
In 2020, Prescott appeared in four games for the Cowboys and completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns.
Vander Esch, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2018. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $11.8 million contract that included a $6.7 million signing bonus.
The Cowboys will have a fifth-year option to pick up on Vander Esch for the 2022 season.
In 2019, Vander Esch appeared in nine games for the Cowboys and recorded 72 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and three pass defenses.
Hill, 22, was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round out of Central Florida in 2019. He’s in the second year of a four-year, $4.878 million contract.
In 2020, Hill appeared in five games for the Cowboys and recorded 11 total tackles, including one for a loss, and no sacks. Pro Football Focus rated Hill as the No. 118 interior defender out of 118 qualifying players.
