According to Mike Fisher, the Cowboys plan to pick up WR Allen Hurns‘ option for the 2019 season, despite suffering a gruesome ankle injury last year.
Calvin Watkins reports that the Cowboys also picked up options on OL Joe Looney and LB Joe Thomas Friday.
Fisher says that Hurns is already back on the practice field and working out, which is obviously very encouraging to hear.
Hurns, 27, signed on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2014. He was in the final year of his rookie contract when the Jaguars signed him to a five-year, $40.6 million deal that included $20 million guaranteed in 2016.
Hurns was set to make base salaries of $6.9 million and $7.9 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Jaguars released him last year. The Cowboys later signed him to two-year, $12 million contract.
In 2018, Hurns appeared in 16 games for the Cowboys and caught 20 passes for 295 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Thomas, 27, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State back in May of 2014. He dealt with an injury during his rookie and briefly played for the Cowboys in 2015 before he returning to the Packers a few weeks into the season.
The Packers declined to tender Thomas a restricted offer last year and he eventually signed a two-year contract worth up to $4.6 million with the Cowboys.
In 2018, Thomas appeared in 10 games for the Cowboys and recorded 10 tackles and no sacks or interceptions.
