Chargers RB Ryan Mathews returned to practice on Monday, hut has yet to be cleared for contact by the team’s medical staff, according to Michael Gehlken.
Mathews has been optimistic that he at least have a shot at playing in the Chargers season opener, but it is hard a guarantee at this point. While he has been able to participate in some drills, he’ll have to wait to get clearance before he has any real shot of seeing game action. Ronnie Brown could be leaned on heavily in his absence.
