Barry Jackson of the Miami Heraldย reports that those who have spoken with the Dolphins have informed him that the team isย “pessimistic” about their chances of re-signingย LT Jake Long.
Jackson adds thatย Long is believed to be looking for a deal that would pay himย $10 million annually and reportedly “scoffed” at Miami’s first offer.
Long, 27, suffered a season-ending triceps injury this year, but there were questions about his overall effectiveness even before he was hurt. The fact that there are a number of quality options available on the open market most likely won’t help his chances of securing that kind of a deal.
The Dolphins are reportedly shopping for value in terms of their own free agents, so unless Long is willing to offer them some kind of discount, it seems fairly likely he’ll be playing elsewhere at the start ofย trainingย camp.

any chance he comes to the bears?
Certainly it’s a possibility. The Bears are in a good position because it’s going to be a buyers market, assuming that majority of the available OT’s aren’t franchised. Chicago could be taking a risk by passing on an OT in the free agency with the hope of walking away with an impact player in the draft. I think they would have to consider the idea of signing Long, especially if the market pushes down his asking price.
