Dolphins Re-Sign TE Gavin Escobar, Place TE MarQueis Gray On IR

The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday that they’ve re-signed TE Gavin Escobar and placed TE MarQueis Gray on injured reserve.

According to Ian Rapoport, Gray suffered a torn Achilles during Wednesday’s practice.

Escobar, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $4.21 million rookie contract with the Cowboys and was testing the open market for the first time in his career when he signed a one-year. $885,000 contract that included $80,000 guaranteed with the Chiefs last year.

Unfortunately, Kansas City elected to cut Escobar loose coming out of the preseason. Escobar had a brief stint with the Ravens last year before signing a futures contract with the Browns this past January.

After being cut loose by Cleveland, Escobar signed on with the Dolphins in April. However, he was released coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Escobar appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and caught four passes for 30 yards receiving and one touchdown.
