Following Saturday’s game against the Raiders, Dolphins HC Brian Flores announced that Tua Tagovailoa will be their starting quarterback for Week 17’s matchup with the Bills.
This comes shortly after Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins to a dramatic fourth quarter win.
Fitzpatrick was clearly the more effective quarterback and this was the second time this season Flores opted to bench Tua during a game to spark the offense. However, it’s clear they aren’t giving up on their first-round quarterback being their starter moving forward this season.
Tagovailoa, 22, was selected with the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft by the Dolphins. He signed a four-year, $30,275,438 rookie contract that includes a $19,578,501 signing bonus.
The contract includes a fifth-year for the Dolphins to pick up for the 2024 season.
In 2020, Tagovailoa has appeared in nine games and thrown for 1,453 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns.
