Eagles Officially Re-Sign RB Jay Ajayi

Update:

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Friday that they’ve officially re-signed RB Jay Ajayi and placed RB Darren Sproles on injured reserve.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles intend to sign RB Jay Ajayi to a contract following his visit to the team on Friday.

According to Rapoport, the two parties are “deep in talks” right now.

Ajayi will likely take the roster spot of Darren Sproles, who is done for the season with a hip flexor injury.

Ajayi spent the offseason recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2018 season and is reportedly healthy and ready to return.

Ajayi, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million contract and made a base salary of $1.9 million for the 2018 season.

The Eagles acquired Ajayi in a trade with the Dolphins that sent a 2018 fourth-round pick to Miami. He has been a free agent since March.

In 2018, Ajayi has appeared in four games for the Eagles and rushed for 184 yards on 45 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 20 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
