Falcons Sign 4 To Futures Deals Including QB Matt Simms & RB Gus Johnson

The Atlanta Falcons officially signed four players future/reserve contracts on Monday including: WR C.J. Goodwin, RB Gus Johnson, G Collin Rahrig and QB Matt Simms.

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and training camp.

Simms, 27, signed on with the Jets as an undrafted out of Tennessee back in 2012. He spent just over three years with the Jets before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Bills in May.

However, Simms was unfortunately among their final roster cuts, but later signed on to the Falcons’ practice squad.

In 2014, Simms was signed to the team’s practice squad and wound up appearing in one game, completing 3-of-8 pass attempts for 39 yards.

Johnson, 22, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin back in May. He lasted just a few days with Oakland before he was waived and later signed on with the Cowboys.

Johnson was on and off of the Cowboys’ practice squad before signing on to the Falcons taxi squad back in October.

He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
