Falcons Sign K Younghoe Koo & P Ryan Allen To One-Year Extensions

The Atlanta Falcons announced Tuesday that they’ve signed P Ryan Allen and K Younghoe Koo to one-year extensions.

Falcons HC Dan Quinn said at his end of the year press conference that they still plan to bring in more kicking competition this offseason, so Koo will have to win the job this summer.

“We want to make sure the competition is right in there, but I would say Younghoe did an excellent job,” Quinn said. “He wanted to come in and prove it. (He) kicked off, made tough kicks in some pressure. He wanted to make sure he represented himself in a way that he could throw his name into the competition and I thought he did that.”

Koo, 25, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern back in 2017. He was set to make a base salary of $465,000 for the 2017 season when the Chargers waived him a few weeks into the season.

After a stint with the AAF’s Atlanta Legends, the Patriots signed Koo to their practice squad. However, he was released during the season and later signed on with the Falcons.

In 2019, Koo appeared in eight games for the Falcons and converted 23 of 26 field goal attempts (88.5 percent) to go along with 15 of 16 extra point tries (93.8 percent).

Allen, 29, wound up signing on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech back in 2013. Allen had one year remaining on his rookie contract when he and the Patriots agreed to a new three-year extension back in 2015.

Allen re-signed with the Patriots back in March only for the team to cut him loose during the preseason. The Falcons signed him to a contract a few months later and he was on off of their roster throughout the season.

In 2019, Allen has appeared in eight games for the Falcons and totaled 1172 yards on 28 attempts (41.9 YPA), which includes 14 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
