Falcons Sign QB Rex Grossman To A One-Year Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Falcons have signed QB Rex Grossman to a one-year deal.

Previous reports had said that the Falcons coaching staff would like to upgrade their backup quarterbacks position, as there’s some question as to whether or not T.J. Yates is really the team’s preferred option as Matt Ryan‘s backup.

Grossman, 34, previously found interest from the Browns several months ago, but ultimately passed on the opportunity. He was apparently dealing with an injury a few weeks ago that he sustained while training.

There’s an obvious connection between Grossman and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan from their time together in Washington, so it will be interesting to see if he’s able to secure a roster spot.

Grossman last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season when he was playing for the Redskins.
