According to Jason La Canfora, the Falcons, Texans and Lions are reportedly interested in Northwestern HC Pat Fitzgerald.
La Canfora adds that Fitzgerald seems more open to considering a leap to the NFL given recent changes at his school. He’s long been something of a white whale in NFL circles, with nine requested interviews the past five years.
The Bears reportedly had Fitzgerald on the top of their wish list if they have a vacancy this year and Chicago is believed to be the most ideal fit.
It’s worth pointing out that long-time Texans beat reporter John McClain reported earlier this week that the Texans would not have any interest in hiring a college coach.
Fitzgerald, 46, was hired as a defensive backs coach for Northwestern back in 2001 and he eventually worked his way up to head coach in 2006.
During his 13 years as the Wildcats’ head coach, Fitzgerald has led the team to a record of 106-81 (56.7 percent), which includes 10 bowl game appearances.
