Former Bears DC Vic Fangio was named 2018 Assistant Coach of the Year on Saturday at NFL Honors.
Fangio, 60, began his NFL coaching career with the Saints back in 1986 as their linebackers coach. He has worked for several teams including the Panthers, Colts, Texans, Ravens and 49ers before he was hired by the Bears as their defensive coordinator back in 2015.
Fangio’s contract expired after the 2017 season and he later re-signed with the Bears.
The Broncos elected to hire Fangio as their head coach a few weeks ago.
In 2018, the Bears’ defense ranks No. 3 in yards allowed, No. 1 in points allowed, No. 1 in rushings yards allowed and No. 7 in passing yards allowed.
