According to Jason La Canfora, former Giants GM Jerry Reese is a potential candidate for the Lions vacancy.
La Canfora says Reese has been recommended by advisors the Lions trust and by the league office. Former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, who Reese succeeded in New York, is a strong supporter of Reese and helped the Lions in their last GM hire.
La Canfora adds Reese also has the support of the league, with NFL VP of football operations Troy Vincent saying on numerous occasions how ridiculous it was Reese didn’t interview for any openings last year.
Reese would be the first candidate the Lions have hired since 2000 who has been a GM before, which La Canfora mentions is a factor the Lions are very much aware of.
Reese, 57, was hired as the Giants GM in 2007 and spent 11 years in charge of the team before being fired in 2017.
In total, the Giants were 90-82 (52.3 percent) under Reese, which includes four playoff appearances and two Super Bowl titles.
We’ll have more on the Lions general manager search as the news is available.
