Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that long time Titans K Rob Bironas was killed Saturday night in a car crash in Nashville.
Bironas reportedly lost control of the SUV he was driving and veered off the road and hit several trees. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and eventually ended up upside down in a drainage culvert.
Bironas was taken Vanderbilt University Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival.
Bironas, 36, just recently worked out for the Lions this past week and was trying to catch on with a new team following his release from Tennessee. He spent nine years with the Titans.
Last year, Bironas converted 86.2 precent of his attempts making 5 of 7 from 40-49 yards and 2 of 3 from over 50 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 kicker in 2013.
