Free Agent QB David Carr To Try Out For Raiders, Matt Flynn On The Chopping Block?

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that free agent QB David Carr will go through a physical and tryout at the Raiders’ facility Sunday.

The Raiders appear to be focused on adding another quarterback, even if it’s not Josh Freeman. Multiple reports have indicated that the Raiders are one of the favorites to sign Freeman, but Carr could be a contingency option if Freeman elects to sign elsewhere.

Matt Flynn lost his backup job to undrafted rookie Matt McGloin this week, so it makes sense that they would look to find a better backup option to Terrelle Pryor.

Carr was drafted No. 1 overall by the Texans during their expansion year, but he never lived up to his draft status and has been a backup for the Giants in recent years.

As for Matt Flynn, it’s probably a safe assumption that the Raiders have given up on him being viable option at quarterback. Flynn will still make his salary for the remainder of the season, but he’s an obvious candidate to be on the chopping block.

Should Flynn become a free agent, it will be interesting to see if he returns to the Packers.
