Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that free agent RB Chris Johnson could sign a new deal as early as this week.
- According to Florio, there’s currentlyย multiple teamsย with interest in signing Johnson right now.
It’s worth mentioning that both Johnson and the Cardinals have shownย interest in him returning toย Arizona next year in the past few months.
“They want me back and I want to be back, but you know how the business side is,” said Johnson previously on SiriusXM NFL Radio, via Fox Sports. “Everything has got to be right for both parties but I can’t wait for both sides to get started (talking).”
He went on to sayย that he feels loyalty towards that Cardinals since they were one of the only teams to express interest in him when he was a free agent last year.
“I feel like at this point in my career I am not really chasing the money,” said Johnson. “I can’t say I ever really chased the money, but when you’re a young guy in this league, you want to take care of your family and get the highest deal possible.
“I still want to get the best deal, but at the same time, I want to be somewhere where we have a chance to win. I feel like Arizona is the best place for me right now.”
Johnson, 30, signed one-year, $870,000 contract with the Cardinals that included $400,000 guaranteedย andย another $1.13 million available through incentives.
Johnson unfortunately landed on theย injured reserve list with the designation to return after he sustained a leg fracture during their gameย against the 49ers.
In 2015, Johnson has ran forย 814 yards on 196 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with six receptions for 58 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focusย has him rated Johnson as the No. 69 running back out of 69 qualifying players.
