Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Giants hosted three free agent running backs for tryouts on Friday including C.J. Anderson, Akeem Hunt and Javorius Allen.
Indications are that Saquon Barkley should be able to return in Week 7, but the Giants’ depth behind him is still questionable, so it can’t hurt to take a look at some available options.
Anderson, 28, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Cal back in 2013. He signed a four-year, $18 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed with the Dolphins as a restricted free agent during the 2016 offseason but the Broncos matched the deal.
The Broncos elected to release Anderson last offseason and he eventually agreed to a one-year contract with the Panthers. After a brief stint with the Raiders, Anderson signed on with the Rams in December.
From there, Anderson agreed to a one-year deal with the Lions this past April but was released a few weeks ago.
In 2018, Anderson appeared in 11 games and rushed for 403 yards on 67 carries (6 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 41 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

Hunt, 26, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in 2015. He lasted just a few months in New York before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season.
Hunt had brief stints with the Ravens and Texans before the Chiefs signed him to a contract in 2017. Kansas City elected to cut him loose last year.
Hunt caught on briefly with the Titans earlier this summer before being waived coming out of the preseason.
For his career, Hunt has appeared in 30 games for the Texans and Chiefs and rushed for 228 yards on 45 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 13 receptions for 99 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
Allen, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year rookie contract with the Ravens before agreeing to a contract with the Saints this past May.
The Saints placed Allen on injured reserve back in August before releasing him a few weeks later.
In 2018, Allen appeared in 14 games for the Ravens and rushed for 110 yards on 41 carries (2.7 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 196 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.
