Citing source knowledge of the situation, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has more influence over the game-planning and play-calling than ever before, due to his close relationship with OC Randy Fichtner.
According to La Canfora, the relationship between Roethlisberger and Fichtner has come under scrutiny in Pittsburgh.
La Canfora mentions that many in the Steelers organization believe there is a definite correlation between the heavy propensity of passes and the closeness between Roethlisberger and Fichtner, who previously served as the team’s QBs coach.
It’s worth mentioning that the Steelers are still without Pro Bowl RB Le’Veon Bell, which likely explains why they’ve passed the ball more.
Steelers WR Antonio Brown got into it with Fichtner on the sidelines after their loss to the Chiefs and La Canfora believes there’s already pressure mounting throughout the organization after an 0-1-1 start to the season.
We’ll have more regarding the Steelers as the news is available.
