According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets S Jamal Adams has officially requested to be traded. However, Mehta says the Jets haven’t granted him permission to seek a trade out of New York.
Rich Cimini has confirmed the news and says that the situation between the Jets and Adams continues to deteriorate.
Cimini adds that while the Jets have no intention of trading Adams, he could attempt to force their hand by being disruptive and staging a training camp holdout. Per Cimini, Adams is upset because he feels the team is dragging its feet.
According to Calvin Watkins, there are certain teams Adams is willing to be traded to where he won’t request a contract extension.
Earlier in the day, Adams responding to a comment on Instagram and said it may be “time to move on” from the Jets:
“I deserve to be paid but when i ask to be taking (sic) care of I’m ‘BEING THAT GUY’ huh? What does Pat have to do with me? Pat is about to get 40 to 60 M’s a year. Well deserved. That’s my guy. But don’t compare me to QB’s if you aren’t paying me QB money. S–t, if I was about to get 40 plus u wouldn’t hear a damn word from me. Lol fr fr. Don’t use the pandemic excuse. CM22 got paid not too long ago. Well deserved. Great friend of mine. You’re lost my guy. Ima protect myself just like an organization will look out for themselves at the end of the day. & if you guys don’t respect that, cool. It’s all luv. Maybe it’s time to move on! Can’t trick a WIZARD! Luv.”
Trade buzz regarding Adams has been circulating for months now, but the Jets have maintained that they aren’t looking to move him.
Prior reports have said the Jets could look for compensation of around first- and third-round picks in return for Adams, should they get serious about trying to trade him.
Adams is seeking a long-term deal after becoming eligible for the first time this offseason and would like to be the NFL’s highest-paid safety. If the Jets aren’t willing to do that, the Cowboys have come up as a potential destination.
Adams, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2017. He just finished the third year of his four-year contract worth $22,256,084, which includes a signing bonus of $14,326,244.
The Jets exercised Adams’ fifth-year option before the draft, which will cost them $9.86 million for the 2021 season. This figure is guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.
In 2019, Adams appeared in 14 games for the Jets and recorded 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, one recovery, two defensive touchdowns and seven pass defenses.
Weโll have more regarding the Jets and Adams as the news is available.
