Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that some around the NFL expect Jets DL Leonard Williams to be the next big name to be traded.
Fowler notes that the Raiders are among the teams interested in acquiring pass rush help before the upcoming deadline.
A few days ago, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that the Jets could trade Williams “for the right price.”
Albert Breer mentioned that the Jets are listening to offers for Williams and the Chiefs and Eagles are seen as “sensible landing spots” for Williams if the price is right, which could be around a third-round pick.
Williams, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2015. He was in the final year of a four-year, $18.6 million rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $2,975,574 in 2018 when the Jets picked up his fifth-year option last April.
Williams will make a base salary of $14.2 million for the 2019 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Williams will free up $14.2 million of available cap space while creating no dead money.
In 2019, Williams has appeared in all four games for the Jets and has 11 total tackles and no sacks.
We’ll have more regarding Williams as the news is available.
