UPDATE
Pro Football Talk was the first to report that the New York Jets have re-signed QB Brady Quinn.
The move has been expected for days now. The Jets will not have to guarantee Quinnโs contract now that heโs missed their first game of the season. Rookie Geno Smith was able to pull out a win in his first NFL game, so Quinn will have to compete with Matt Simms for the backup job.
Mark Sanchez is expected to get a second opinion on his injured shoulder, so thereโs really no timetable for his return.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports confirms that QB Brady Quinn will indeed be re-signed next week after the Jets season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Quinnโs stay in New York is expected to last until Mark Sanchez is healthy enough to return.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the New York Jets will release QB Brady Quinn today.
There were rumors that the Jets could cut Quinn loose in the past free days, so this doesnโt come as a big shock. Quinnโs salary will become guaranteed if he remains on the roster at the start of the Jets season, therefore he could be re-signed on Monday, many veterans are expected to experience this.
Quinnโs release figures to be temporary, so he will more than likely be part of the Jets roster this season. Quinnโs outlook this season will be that of third-string quarterback behind Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez
