The move has been expected for days now. The Jets will not have to guarantee Quinn’s contract now that he’s missed their first game of the season. Rookieย Geno Smith was able to pull out a win in his first NFL game, soย Quinn will have to compete withย Matt Simms for the backup job.
Mark Sanchez is expected to get a ย secondย opinion on his injured shoulder, so there’s really no timetable for his return.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the New York Jets will release QB Brady Quinn today.
There were rumors that the Jets could cut Quinn loose in the past free days, so this doesn’t come as a big shock.ย Quinn’s salary will become guaranteed if he remains on the roster at the start of the Jets season, therefore he could be re-signed on Monday, many veterans are expected to experience this.
Quinn’s release figures to be temporary, so he will more than likely be part of the Jets roster this season. Quinn’s outlook this season will be that of third-string quarterback behind Geno Smith andย Mark Sanchez
