According to Adam Schefter, the Jets received serious interest in first-round rookie DT Quinnen Williams.
However, Schefter reports the Jets refused to budge on Williams, shutting down numerous trade inquiries from other teams. That included one team that would not take no for an answer and offered a blockbuster package of draft picks.
The way the Jets handled Williams stands in contrast to how they handled trade inquiries for S Jamal Adams and RB Le’Veon Bell, as they were willing to engage in negotiations for the latter two players and not Williams.
Williams, 21, was selected by the Jets with the No. 3 overall pick out of Alabama in the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $32,529,380 rookie contract that includes $21,677,732 signing bonus.
Williams is set to make base salaries of $495,000 and $585,000 the next two seasons. His contract also includes a fifth-year option for the Jets to potentially pick up.
In 2019, Williams has appeared in five games and recorded 16 total tackles, half a sack and one pass defense.
