Jets Waiving QB Bryce Petty

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets are placing QB Bryce Petty on waivers Thursday.

There has been talk of the Jets moving from Petty and Christian Hackenberg for some time now, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Last week, a report surfaced that NFL teams were contacting the Jets about trading Petty. However, the draft came and went without a deal being agreed to.

The Jets used No. 3 overall pick on Sam Darnold and signed Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater in free agency, so they’re set at the quarterback position.

It will be interesting to see which team gives Petty another shot.

Petty, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Jets back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,833,696 contract and is set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Petty appeared in four games and threw for 544 yards while completing 49.1 percent of his passes to go along with one touchdown and three interceptions.
