Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that Browns LT Joe Thomas and Texans holdout LT Duane Brown both remain trade possibilities ahead of the upcoming trade deadline for teams in need of offensive line help.
Florio specifically mentions the Seahawks as one contender that would make sense for either player. Seattle recently met with free agent LT Branden Albert, and extended him an offer. However, the two parties are not close to an agreement.
In regards to Thomas,ย Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently reported the Browns have “no intention” of trading himย in the coming weeks.
An executive tells Pluto that while Thomas may not be the best left tackle in the NFL, he’s clearly in the conversation.
“I don’t know if Joe is still the best left tackle, but he’s in the conversation,” the executive said. “And his contract is reasonable for a player of his caliber.”
As for Brown, he’s skipped all of training camp, the preseason and the first six weeks of the regular season.
Florio says that the Texans would consider trading Brown in a deal that would help them replenish a 2018 draft class diminished by the loss of a first- and second-round pick. Although, it remains to be seen how this situation will play out.
Thomas, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2007. He’s currently in the seventh year of his eight-year, $92 million contract that includes $44 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $8.8 million over the final two years of the agreement.
In 2017, Thomas has appeared in all six gamesย and is rated byย Pro Football Focusย as the No. 2 offensive tackleย out of 71 qualifying players.
Brown, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2008. He’s currently in the sixth year of his seven-year, $56.2 million contract that includes $22.08 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $9.4 million and $9.75 million over the next two years.
In 2016, Brown appeared in 12 games and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 14 offensive tackle out of 78 qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding potential trades involving Thomas and Brown as the news is available.
