Peter Schrager reports that the Lions are interviewing head coach and GM candidates at the same time and are expected to interview interim HC Darrell Bevell, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, and 49ers DC Robert Saleh this week.
Detroit kicked off their head-coaching interviews this past Thursday by meeting with former Bengals HC Marvin Lewis.
Some other names linked to the Lions in recent days include Saints assistant HC/TEs coach Dan Campbell, Titans OC Arthur Smith and Northwestern HC Pat Fitzgerald.
Saleh, 41, began his NFL coaching career with the Texans in 2005 as a defensive intern. He eventually worked his way up to assistant linebackers coach before he took over as the Seahawks defensive quality control coach in 2011.
The Jaguars later hired Saleh as their linebackers coach where he remained for three seasons. The 49ers hired him as their defensive coordinator in 2017.
Bieniemy, 51, played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Chargers, Bengals and Eagles before retiring in 1999. His NFL coaching career began in 2006 when he took over as the Vikings’ RBs coach.
The Chiefs hired him for the same position in 2013 and he was later promoted to offensive coordinator.
Bevell, 50, began his NFL coaching career with the Packers as an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2000. He eventually worked his way up to QBs coach before being hired by the Vikings as their offensive coordinator in 2006.
After five years in Minnesota, Bevell signed on with the Seahawks for the 2011 season and spent seven years in Seattle before he was fired in 2018. The Lions hired him as their offensive coordinator the next year.
Detroit promoted him to interim head coach after firing Matt Patricia. So far in 2020, Bevell is 1-2 as the interim.
