Lions Placing RB Kerryon Johnson On Injured Reserve Following Knee Surgery

Lions HC Matt Patricia announced Tuesday that RB Kerryon Johnson had a procedure this morning on his knee and is being placed on injured reserve.

I feel really bad for Kerryon that he’s in this situation but very optimistic going forward,” Patricia said, per Dave Birkett.

Detroit is still hoping he can return to the team at some point this season. However, Patricia said they are “prepared to go running back by committee.

As of now, the Lions have Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic on their active roster and Paul Perkins on the practice squad.

Some speculative trade options for Detroit to consider could include Melvin Gordon and Kenyan Drake

Johnson, 22, is a former second-round pick of the Lions back in 2018. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $6,503,698 rookie contract that included a $2,809,960 signing bonus.

In 2019, Johnson has appeared in six games for the Lions and rushed for 308 yards on 92 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 126 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.
