Lions Signing RB Adrian Peterson

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Lions are signing veteran RB Adrian Peterson to a contract on Sunday. Adrian Peterson

Adam Schefter adds that Peterson is signing a one-year deal worth $1.05 million that also includes some incentives.

Peterson tells Josina Anderson that he feels comfortable with the Lions’ staff.

“They’re giving me an opportunity to play. I know coach (Darell) Bevell from my days in Minnesota. Ultimately I feel comfortable going there and helping them to get better,” Peterson said.

According to Adam Caplan, the decision to sign Peterson isn’t due to an injury and more that the Lions wanted to add some running back depth.

Peterson, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints.

The Saints later traded Peterson to the Cardinals for a 2018 sixth-round pick back in 2017. However, Arizona cut him loose and he eventually signed on with the Redskins.

Washington brought Peterson back last year on a two-year contract worth $8 million that included an option. Unfortunately for Peterson, they opted to move on from him on Friday.

In 2019, Peterson appeared in 15 games for the Redskins and rushed for 898 yards on 211 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 17 receptions for 142 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.

We had him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
