Lovie Smith To Sit Out 2013 In The Hope of Securing A HC Job Next Year

ESPNโ€™s Adam Schefter reports that former Bears head coach Lovie Smith expects to sit out the 2013 season and pursue a head coaching position next season.

This is somewhat interesting given that there are a few defensive coordinator jobs available including the Eagles and Saints and Smith is widely regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the game. Both of those teamโ€™s are expected to implement 3-4 defensive schemes next season and Smith is known for Tampa-2 defense, so itโ€™s not as though he would be a great fit for either team.

Smith interviewed for a number of jobs, but never emerged as a serious candidate for any of the available jobs. Heโ€™s a good enough coach that he should find interest next season, but itโ€™s hard to say that for sure that heโ€™ll end up with a head coaching job.
