According to Adam Schefter, a source says Saints WR Michael Thomas was “moving really well” in a workout Friday and is hoping to return in Week 4.
Thomas has already been ruled out of Sunday night’s game with the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 1. He will need to be cleared by a doctor to play in Week 4 against the Lions.
The typical timeline for a high-ankle sprain is between 4-6 weeks but the source said Thomas “looked good” this weekend, which is what has a return in just three weeks on the table.
Thomas sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of Week 1’s win over the Buccaneers after he was rolled up on while blocking during a run.
Thomas, 27, was drafted by the Saints in the second round out of Ohio State in 2016. He was entering the final year of a four-year, $5.118 million rookie contract when he agreed to a five-year, $100 million extension last July.
In 2020, Thomas has appeared in one game for the Saints and caught three passes for 17 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
