Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that former Packers coach Mike McCarthy is expected to have his interview with the Giants’ head-coaching job on Friday.
According to Raanan, the belief is that McCarthy is near the top of the Giants’ list of candidates along with Baylor’s Matt Rhule.
The list of requested interviews for the Giants includes:
- Patriots OC Josh McDaniels (NFLTR)
- Chiefs OC Eric Bienemy (NFLTR)
- Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard (NFLTR)
- Mike McCarthy (NFLTR)
- Ravens DC Don “Wink” Martindale (NFLTR)
- Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge (NFLTR)
McCarthy has already interviewed twice with the Panthers and is expected to interview with the Browns as well.
McCarthy, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Chiefs back in 1993 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He bounced around with the Packers, Saints and 49ers before the Packers hired him as their head coach in 2006.
The Packers made the decision to move on from McCarthy following their disappointing loss to the Cardinals in Week 13 of last year.
During his 13-year tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 125-77-2 (61.8 percent), which includes nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title in 2010.
