Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer reports that there’s a “monster gap” between the Panthers and RT Daryl Williams in regards to a long-term extension at this point in time.
In fact, a league source tells Rodrigue that it would be “shocking” if a contract extension happened for Williams before training camp.
Last week, Williams who is entering the final year of his contract, said that his agents have had preliminary discussions with the Panthers about a contract extension.
However, Williams couldn’t say whether a deal will be in place before the start of the regular season.
โI have no clue. I just leave that up to my agents, doing the negotiating,โ Williams said, via the Charlotte Observer. โIโm just trying to focus on practicing and stuff like that.โ
Williams did, however, say that he’s hoping to remain in Carolina long term.
โI love the Panthers. I love the organization. I love Charlotte,โ Williams said. โI hope I can finish the rest of my career here.โ
Williams, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.837 million contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.
Williams will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
In 2017, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Panthersย and is rated byย Pro Football Focusย as the No. 3 offensive tackleย out of 81 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
