NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys WRs coach Sanjay Lal said there are not “many guarantees” with the current receiver group and they will focus on running “detailed, nice-looking routes” this season.

They will be where they’re supposed to be and they will run detailed, nice-looking routes. We’re going to turn the tape on and be proud of what we put on tape. There’s not many guarantees, but it’s going to be that way,” said Lal, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

  • David Moore reports that the Cowboys are awaiting S Kavon Frazier‘s bloodwork to determine if he has an issue with clotting and has a meeting scheduled with a specialist on Thursday.

Eagles

The Eagles elected to hold QB Carson Wentz was held out of team drills for the third consecutive session on Wednesday after participating in 11-on-11s last week.

My understanding is the coaches, trainers and everybody just want to stay in a more controlled environment right now with where we’re at and everything, so that’s what we’re doing,” Wentz said, via ESPN.com.

Eagles HC Doug Pederson explained that he’s “very encouraged” by where Wentz is currently at in terms of his recovery from a torn ACL.

“I’m very encouraged with where he’s at. And what I saw last week is enough to ease my mind. I don’t need to see him in 11-on-11 drills right now,” Pederson said. “He’s progressing extremely well. I don’t want to subject him to a setback or anything like that. I want to keep him progressive and moving forward. And those couple days with him were very exciting and very encouraging for me.”

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden admitted that he’s felt pressure since the day he arrived in Washington as the team’s head coach.

I felt pressure the moment I signed the contract,” Gruden said, via John Keim of ESPN.com. “That’s the way it is here in D.C. Everyone expects a winner. I know Mr. Snyder does and Bruce [Allen], the whole city and the fans. I’ve been fortunate enough to get to this without winning a playoff game. I understand the expectations are high. We’ve put ourselves in position that it should be high, given the talent on this team.”

  • Ian Rapoport reports that it “sounds like” WR Josh Doctson suffered an AC sprain and/or shoulder bruise in Wednesday’s practice.
  • John Keim reports that the Redskins haven’t spoken to LB Preston Smith‘s representatives about an extension up to this point. Smith said of the situation: “You play good; they’re going to pay good.”
