NFC North Notes: Bears, Lions, Packers, Vikings

Bears

Lions

  • Lions QB Matthew Stafford surprisingly showed up on the teamโ€™s Friday injury report with a hip issue.
  • Kyle Meinke reports that people he has spoken with would be โ€œshockedโ€ if Stafford didnโ€™t start on Sunday. According to Meinke, Stafford tweaked his hip but itโ€™s not expected to impact his availability for Sundayโ€™s game.
  • Dave Birkett mentions that Lions CB Darius Slay is still โ€œextremely limitedโ€ during practice. Birkett adds that he would certainly be ready for Mike Ford to get the start if Slay canโ€™t play.
  • The Detroit Lions brought in free agent P Sean Smith for a tryout on Thursday. (Aaron Wilson)
  • The Detroit Lions officially ruled out DT Mike Daniels (foot) for Week 4 and list WR Danny Amendola (chest), DE Daโ€™Shawn Hand (elbow), CB Darius Slay (hamstring), and QB Matthew Stafford (hip) as questionable.

Packers

Packers WR Davante Adams told reporters that he suffered a turf toe injury during Thursdayโ€™s game that forced him to sit out the final few drives.

โ€œIt sucks,โ€ Adams said, via ESPN.com. โ€œYou feel like in situations like that, you let the team down. Obviously I wouldโ€™ve been out there if I could, but Iโ€™m in a little bit of pain, and it was tough. With a toe injury and the type of player I am โ€” what my game is based on is explosion and things like that, so if I canโ€™t get out there and really do my thing how I want and Iโ€™m in a lot of pain, Iโ€™m sure my teammates understand that.

โ€œBut itโ€™s tough, because I feel like those are the type of moments that Iโ€™m built for and Iโ€™ve been able to capitalize in bringing home a win โ€” or help bring home a win โ€” for my team in the past, so it sucks.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve got to check it out,โ€ Adams said. โ€œThey looked at it a little bit now, but weโ€™ll look at it more tomorrow and get a better idea about where Iโ€™m at.โ€

  • David Chao expects this to be a multi-week absence for Adams.
  • Packers HC Matt LaFleur said of Adamsโ€™ turf toe: โ€œAs far as long term, itโ€™s tough to say right now.โ€ LaFleur added that itโ€™s a good opportunity for other receivers to impress and team will have a better idea about Adamsโ€™ injury timeline after the weekend off. (Matt Schneidman)
  • After being stretched off at the start of Thursdayโ€™s game, Packers RB Jamaal Williams posted on Instagram Friday morning that heโ€™s โ€œgonna be goodโ€ moving forward: โ€œOnly thing hurting right now is my pride for not being able to finish the game with my team. Itโ€™s all gonna be good.โ€œ
  • According to LaFleur, Williams is home now after spending the night in the hospital and heโ€™s doing well. (Matt Schneidman)

Vikings

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wonders if Vikings WR Stefon Diggs could be a potential trade candidate, given that the offense has placed a large emphasis on running the ball.
  • The Vikings signed Diggs to an extension and trading him away would result in a sizable cap hit of $9 million in dead money next year. However, Florio says the Vikings would shed the balance of his $8.9 million salary for 2019 while also avoiding a $10.9 million salary for 2020 that becomes fully guaranteed in March.
  • Florio writes that Diggs has โ€œpossibly has become a luxury the Vikings canโ€™t afford.โ€

The Vikings re-signed WR Laquon Treadwell to a one-year deal that includes a $720,000 veteran minimum base salary, which prorates to $592,941 if heโ€™s on the roster all season. (Ben Goessling)

  • The Minnesota Vikings officially ruled out LB Kentrell Brothers (wrist, hamstring), and G Josh Kline (concussion) for Week 4 and list CB Mackensie Alexander (elbow) as questionable.
