NFC Notes: Daniel Jones, Leighton Vander Esch, Commanders, Cowboys, Giants

Commanders

Commanders first-round CB Emmanuel Forbes was ejected for a helmet-to-helmet hit on WR Tyler Lockett in Week 10. The hit was not in question on the play, but Forbes for one felt like it wasn’t egregious enough to rise to the level of an ejection.

“Yes, I was shocked,” he said via USA Today’s Bryan Manning. “It wasn’t like ‘I was trying to ‘kill him’ play. I was just trying to make a play on the ball.”

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed LB Leighton Vander Esch won’t be back this season after suffering the second major neck injury of his career. He also confirmed there’s some long-term concern over the injury.

“I would say that’s accurate. We had just completely left it up to how he was evolving. But of course, it’s a very significant loss for us,” Jones said via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “He’s an integral part of that defense out there. We just wish him well. The nature of his potential injury here causes me to really think longer term and beyond what it means for next week or beyond what it means for next month relative to the team. It has everything to do with what’s in his best interest.”

Giants

Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports, citing multiple sources, reports that some “key people” within the Giants still believe Daniel Jones can be their long-term solution at quarterback.

Vacchiano says even if the Giants end up with the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in the draft, there’s a chance they could pass on a quarterback and continue building around Jones.

“There’s a long way to go (until the draft),” a team source tells Vacchiano. “But I don’t think anyone has given up on him yet.”

Even so, a team source tells Vacchinao that they will prepare for the draft as though they could take a quarterback.
