NFC West Notes: 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

Rams

Rams GM Les Snead explained that the likelihood of them getting compensatory picks for losing WR Sammy Watkins and CB Trumaine Johnson left them comfortable enough to acquire OLB Dante Fowler Jr from the Jaguars.

I can say this: Because we expect to have three third-rounders in this draft based on compensatory picks — no guarantees, but the loss of Sammy Watkins, the loss of Trumaine Johnson — you can project to have at least two, maybe three,” Snead said in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio. “Again, that formula is very complicated, I can’t figure it out. Because we had those multiple threes, we did know that we might be able to have that silver bullet of a third-rounder to get a Dante Fowler.

  • Rams HC Sean McVay announced Wednesday that OLB Dante Fowler passed his physical for the team and they anticipate him being suiting up as soon as this week. (Myles Simmons)

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll explained that the decision to release WR Brandon Marshall on Tuesday was due to the fact that they need some more help on special teams.

“He was a great pro for us, helped guys on both sides of the football with all his experience,” Carroll said, per Curtis Crabtree. “He can still play. We needed a little more help across the board with (special) teams.

  • Regarding LB Mychal Kendricks‘ suspension being set at eight games as opposed to an indefinite ban, Carroll said: “We were hoping for a better shot. … we’ll look forward to getting him back when the time comes.” (Curtis Crabtree)
