NFC West Notes: 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

  • While NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco expects RB Frank Gore to sign his last NFL contract with the 49ers, it will be a one-day deal to retire with the team when Gore is ready.
  • Maiocco also anticipates the 49ers addressing their need for a third tight end in the draft rather than bringing back TE Delanie Walker
  • Out of the team’s current stable of running backs, Maiocco says Matt Breida is the most likely to find himself on another team next season.

Rams

  • Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman says there is interest in QB Jameis Winston from teams, though more from the front office side than coaches, who note how even respected HC Bruce Arians couldn’t fix Winston’s turnover issues.
  • One AFC assistant coach said the Rams could be a potential fit:  “He could energize that offense.”

Seahawks

The Seahawks traded for DE Jadeveon Clowney knowing they had a season to put on their best recruiting pitch for him to choose to stay in Seattle after testing free agency. With Clowney’s free agency still ongoing, the Seahawks are still keeping up the recruiting.

“Clowney come back,” Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said in response to a question on an Instagram Live chat, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “If you are listening, bro. We’ve got another Super Bowl to win, man. We need you. We need you to come back Clowney. Clowney, Clowney if you can hear me, please come back, bro. I need you, homie.”

We have him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
