NFC West Notes: Cardinals, 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

Cardinals

Since back-to-back 100-yard receiving games to start the season, Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has cooled off considerably. However, he’s not putting any pressure on first-round rookie QB Kyler Murray to get the ball to him more.

โ€œThey come, they come, and I catch it,โ€ Fitzgerald said via Darren Urban of the teamโ€™s official website. โ€œThey donโ€™t, they donโ€™t. Keep it moving. I donโ€™t really lose any sleep over anything. Like I told you earlier, I work hard to keep an even keel. The plays that come my way, I need to make.โ€

49ers

49ers’ first-round DE Nick Bosa said he has no resentment towards the Cardinals for drafting QB Kyler Murray ahead of him.

“They needed a quarterback, so they picked a quarterback,” said Bosa, via Matt Barrows of The Athletic

Bosa said the Cardinals were selling him on playing in the two-point stance during his pre-draft visit.

โ€œThey definitely were selling me on the two-point stance,โ€ Bosa said.

Bosa said he was “buying into” playing the two-point stance in Arizona’s defense, but feels that the 49ers’ system will allow him to reach his full potential.

โ€œI was buying into it,โ€ said Bosa. โ€œThereโ€™s good things that you can do with it, and Iโ€™m sure I would have gotten into it in time. But I think for my full potential to be reached, I think Iโ€™m in the right place, in the right defense.โ€

Rams

  • Ian Rapoport mentions that the Rams traded veteran CB Aqib Talib and a 2020 fifth-round pick to the Dolphins as a “salary dump” and acquired $4 million in available cap space and a 2022 seventh-round pick in the process.
  • Rapoport notes that the cap space made available by Talib’s trade will likely go toward a long-term extension for Jalen Ramsey
  • Rapoport also says that Talib is “unlikely to ever play for the Dolphins” and may not report to the team, which is not of Miami’s concern.

Seahawks

  • According to John Clayton, the Seahawks were drawing trade interest for players like RB Rashaad Penny and S Tedric Thompson but they did not get the right value in return for them.
  • Clayton reports that the Lions were interested in acquiring Penny, but the Seahawks wanted to get acquire at least a second-round pick.
  • Clayton notes that the Seahawks also want to maintain their “1-2 punch” with RBs Chris Carson and Penny.
  • Per Pro Football Talk’s Curtis Crabtree, Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said it would be a longshot for S Quandre Diggs to play this weekend, while S Bradley McDougald should be ready to return after missing two weeks with back spasms.
  • Seahawks designated TE Ed Dickson to return from injured reserve. (NFLTR)
  • Seahawks placed S Tedric Thompson on injured reserve.
  • Seahawks signed LB Dekoda Watson. (NFLTR)
  • Seahawks signed WR Cody Thompson to their practice squad.
  • Seahawks released DT Bryan Mone from their practice squad.
